The Partnership

We are proud to announce our new partnership with Pro Cosara! We are extremely excited about this and expect to truly make a difference in combating deforestation in Paraguay, as well as promoting forest conservation and reforestation.

The Reason

Originally the Interior Atlantic Forest in South America covered much of southern Brazil, extending into eastern Paraguay and northern Argentina. What remains today is very little, existing in patches of forest protected by their respective governments or private entities. The demand for land and valuable timber has increased the rate of deforestation in recent years making it difficult to preserve even the protected lands.

This is where WE come in...

  • In 2008, we were able donate $500 to Pro Cosara with the help of our customers. Click here to view the donation receipt.
  • The purpose of the Green Leaf Imports Forest Enrichment Project (Green LIFE Project) is to raise funds for Pro Cosara in order to:

  • Promote the conservation of the San Rafael Reserve
  • Assist in reforestation efforts through the purchase of new lands
  • Aid in the protection of the indigenous groups who rely on the San Rafael Reserve for a sustainable way of life

    The Challenge

In 1992, the Paraguay government set out to designate approximately 180,000 acres of forest as the San Rafael National Park in an effort to preserve a large portion of the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest. However, the federal government failed to complete the purchase of the land, leaving the area vulnerable to logging and land clearing by those who live in and around this critical habitat.Illegal Logging In 2002, this area was named the San Rafael Natural Resource Management Reserve, assigning it to approximately 50 nearby landowners and leaving it open to environmental threats such as "sustainable use of forestry products, hydro-electric power generation, outdoor recreation, agriculture, and cattle raising".

As fertile land becomes scarce and natural resources become even less abundant, the San Rafael Natural Resource Management Reserve will be subjected to even greater pressure to provide for those who live in the area.Aerial Photo of San Rafael Help us and Pro Cosara protect this special habitat by donating to the Green LIFE Fund and/or purchasing items from our website*.
